Singapore Tyler Print Institute, a free display of paper art installations and printed materials. If you are into theatre, Theater Works, the theater company and Singapore Repertory Theatre, known for acclaimed classics like Shakespeare’s Hamlet, definitely will not let you down.

Lau Pat Sat Market is a very popular place where you get to enjoy delicious authentic hawker food. In Hokkien, Lau Pat Sat means “ancient market”. It was one of Singapore’s earliest wet marketplaces over 150 years ago, and was originally known as Telok Ayer Market in 1825.

If you are a fan of adventure, you should not miss G-Max Reverse Bungee. The normal bungee is a challenge but the reverse one is sure to make you howl. It is refreshing to have a bird’s eye view of the Singapore River from here. Of course, this is not a game for faint-hearted people.

Robertson Walk Shopping Mall is the best shopping center in Robertson Quay. The ambience is pleasant and soothing, thanks to the Mediterranean architectural architecture. Whether you wish to splash some cash or simply do some window-shopping, the Robertson Walk Shopping Mall is an excellent local destination for a fun day out.

UE Square Shopping Mall is another popular shopping mall near Robertson Quay. It offers a large directory of stores, a range of restaurants and plenty of events and activities. The shopping mall is based across four levels, with plenty of shops to browse.

Orchard Road, one of Singapore’s top shopping destinations, is just a short walk from Robertson Quay. Offering the very best state-of-the-art shopping malls, big designer names and popular Asian and Western brands, Orchard Road is a one-stop shopping destination for everything you might need. There are also plenty of events held on Orchard Road throughout the year, so do some research to figure out what is on during your stay.

What for meals?

You have a wide range of dining options here such as Bella Pizza, known for the best pizza in the city. If you are into whiskey, it is worth to try 50-year-old vintage bottles at La Maison Du Whiskey.

With beautiful apartments, modern amenities and convenient access to a variety of attractions, a stay at Citadines Rochor Singapore was an easy choice for my weekend getaway. Here’re some highlights to look forward to at Citadines Rochor Singapore!

Home away from home

offers a range of accommodations for any traveller’s need. From studios to lofts and one-bedroom apartments, it’s perfect whether you’re travelling with family, for business or leisure.

I stayed at the Studio Executive apartment equipped with an en-suite bathroom, fully equipped kitchenette, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the unobstructed view of Little India, one of Singapore’s cultural neighbourhood. The room was spacious, open, and contemporary. The room amenities were perfect for me as I needed the space for all of my luggage, plus a place for the team to do make-up and prepare outfits for the weekend festivities.

The apartment also came with steam iron and ironing board, which was so important for me to be able to constantly change my outfits during the trip. I was also cooking up late night snacks in the kitchen for my team as we worked late and needed something to refuel!

A short walk to local attractions

is located in Little India, a truly diverse neighbourhood with options to explore historic cultural attractions and enjoy the retail & dining scenes. Close to the hotel are the 24-hour Mustafa Centre and the foodie paradise Tekka Centre, where travellers can shop and eat from a variety of hawkers. Citadines Rochor Singapore is also near 

The hotel is located near 3 MRT stations, which means travellers can get to the hotel and around Singapore conveniently. I did not have a lot of time this weekend to explore the neighbourhood due to a packed schedule, but it gives me more reasons to come back soon!

Rest and relax

For such a short trip, I was thankful for the staff for their hospitality and excellent service during my stay. I was able to rest and relax while enjoying a wide range of facilities and amenities at the hotel, including an outdoor swimming pool, a residents’ lounge and a fitness centre. Should I need to ask for anything else, reception was always just a phone call away.

The inclusive services and amenities at Citadines Rochor Singapore certainly made it easy to plan stress-free holidays or business trips. 

As international travels finally resume, I was reminded of how much I enjoyed exploring the world! I can’t wait for my next trip to Singapore and another stay at .

Here are my top 5 favorite coffee shops in Saigon!

1. Dabao Concept – Co Do

Dabao Concept cafe has 3 branches in Saigon and each branch is decorated in a different style. I was most impressed with the Dabao Concept on Tu Xuong street, which was inspired by the ancient capital of Hue. This is also the biggest branch of Dabao Concept with plenty of outdoor space, along with elegant and nostalgic architecture. The whole ambience feels very poetic, quiet and calm. It’s also super photogenic for those of you living for the ‘gram!

2. Pora Pora

Pora Pora is minimalist coffee shop located in the heart of Saigon. The highlight of the cafe is the rooftop that is always full of bright, beautiful sunlight. The way this coffee shop is decorated will make you feel like you’re sunbathing at a Mediterranean beach with palm trees, cactus and gravel floor. Definitely an lovely oasis to get lost in within the big metropolitan city of Saigon! The only thing you should know is that the space is not too big, so don’t come by at peak hours!

3. September Saigon

The space of September Saigon reminds me of a garden in the clouds, if that makes any sense. The main color theme of the shop is ivory white and earthy orange, combined lots of greeneries, which creates such a beautiful harmony for the space. The cafe has many floors and open space, so you can choose whichever corner you like best to enjoy some refreshing drinks.

4. Danshari Coffee

Danshari Coffee has a minimalist Japanese style, which is definitely different from other coffee shops in the city. The decoration of this looks quite simple but extremely meticulous and delicate. I love how the cafe uses gray, beige, and brow in everything here, from the tables, chairs to little coffee mugs. A great choice for people looking for a minimal, quiet place to study or work!

This is where I usually go to when meeting up with some close friends.

Besides the modern, minimal coffee shops that have always been the iconic image of Japan, you can pay a visit to the tea houses in the ancient town of Tokyo. Personally, I visited all the Starbucks stores in Tokyo because their architecture and set up are extremely unique, unlike anywhere I’ve tried in the world.

Lastly, Tokyo nightlife is a must see (and do!) in Japan. Shinjuku and Shibuya are the two popular areas among young people in Tokyo. They go here for a vibrant bar, club, and karaoke scene. A special thing about these areas is although they are very busy, you will feel quite safe. Wandering the streets late at night, sipping a noodle bowl on the sidewalk is also a memorable experience in Tokyo.

When I think of detox, I usually think of these detox regimes of only drinking juices within a certain time period. However, I was surprised to know that a lot of people go through an expensive detox process without any consultation from professionals or doctors. The processes might even have unclear scientific foundation and ask you to follow a rather… strange diet but are still trusted by many people.

According to what I know, detox – the detoxification of the body is not just about depriving yourself of foods and drinks.  Learn more below.

What is detox? 

Detox, to put simply, is getting the toxins from the outside environment out of our bodies. These toxins might come from the air we breathe, the foods, drinks, medicines, even in dish soaps and other cleaning products. Apart from that, the insides of our bodies also have toxins from high cholesterol, bacterias, viruses… 

Even though our bodies take in toxins everyday, we are fortunate that we have already got an extremely effective system to detox naturally.

How do our bodies detox? 

The liver and kidneys are the 2 main detoxification organs in the body. Toxins that go into our body and cannot be adsorbed into the bloodstream will be transferred to the liver. The liver will then break these down and send them to the kidneys. The kidneys will once again filter the waste and remove them from the body through the excretory system. 

So, you can see that the liver and kidneys are actually superheroes who can eliminate most toxins out of our bodies everyday without us having to skip meals. 

When does your body need assistance in detoxification?

So if we have a natural detoxification system that is so effective, can we just eat and drink whatever we want? The answer is obviously no. 

Let’s imagine the detoxification system of the body as a river. If a tree branch fell into the river, the water would easily flush it away. Bưt if there were trees, trash, and dust all falling into the river at once, the water flow would for sure be blocked. 

The same goes for our livers, kidneys and digestive system . If there are too many toxins absorbed into the body, they will not be able to detoxify fast and effectively enough to keep us healthy. 

Of course, when the body is overwhelmed with toxins, there will be clear signs and that will be when we need to seek medical assistance immediately.

So should we follow a detoxing process? 

With a healthy body, detoxing by only drinking juice or taking supplements instead of the usual diet would not yield too much effect. And as I shared with you above, toxins also come from polluted air, chemicals, water…Thus, limiting food intakes is not the best way to detox your body. 

When your body is overwhelmed with toxins, there are sure signs to recognize it. In this case, we need to seek medical assistance immediately.

I think we can still follow some detox programs when we want to to feel better and more balanced. But we cannot expect them to completely change or heal our bodies. 

What are the ways to assist our bodies in natural detoxing?

Here are some of the simple but effective ways to help our bodies naturally detox better:

• Get enough sleep: Sleep gives our body time to recover. This is when the liver and kidneys work  eliminate toxins accumulated throughout the day. Sleeping for 7-9 hours a day is crucial for effective detoxification. 
• Eat clean: This is why I follow an eat clean diet: eat more vegetables, cook fresh food everyday, eliminate sugar out of daily foods and drinks. Foods with high fiber such as veggies, nuts, cereals…will help the body to digest and detox well. 
• Drink plenty of water: Drinking 2 liters of water a day will not only help our skin to get better, but is also a great way to detox. When we drink more water, our kidneys will work faster and more effectively. 
• Exercising: Working out everyday helps with lymphatic circulation and sweating, which are the 2 important functions in the process of detoxification. And of course, it will also help us reduce fat and safeguard the cardiovascular system! 
• Finally, it is to minimize all toxicity in our living environment. For example, filter tap water everyday, use air purifiers, stop drinking alcohol, smoking, use organic skin care, cleaning products…are all good habits.

Samgyeopsal (삼겹살) 

Shall we begin with the most famous dish: Korean BBQ? This can be considered as the national dish of Korea. The eating culture around the dish is also interesting. For example, when Koreans go out for a BBQ, they often go in a big group and the meal includes drinking. BBQ restaurants in Korea is called “gogijip” which literally means a house of meat. Your options include beef, pork, chicken, and many different types of sauce and side dishes.

Two things you need to keep in mind when having Korean BBQ: First, unlike in Vietnam, at Korean BBQ restaurants, you won’t have the waiter grill the meat for you. Instead, customers will grill and cut the meat as they wanted. Second, make sure to eat the whole roll in one bite, otherwise you will be considered as being impolite!

Naengmyeon (냉면)

Naengmyeon, cold noodle, is a popular lunch dish in Korea, especially during summer. To be honest, the dish doesn’t look too tempting to me at first. However, it takes sophistication to make, including buckwheat noodle, sliced cucumber, grilled meat, and boiled egg. The broth is cold with a slight sour taste to it, perfect for a summer day. You can try Naengmyeon at any restaurant in Korea, but I especially like the Naengmyeon restaurants in Myeongdong for the perfect price and taste.

Sundae (순대)

I grew up with the Kdrama where whenever there’s a broken heart, there’s sundae with soju on a side-walk stall. When I come to Korea, I realize that wasn’t just on the movies. In the evening, ajumma and ajusshi will start to bring out the stalls and tarps and prepare steaming hot sundae. Sundae is steamed pork or beef intestine, stuffed with thin vermicelli and herbs. The sundae places usually have odeng (fish cake), tteokbokki (rice cake), boiled intestines,… You can also order a soju if you’re up for a fun night. 

Chimaek (치맥)

Chimaek is indispensable to the drinking culture of Korean. Chimaek combines 2 words: “chi” – short for chicken, and “maek” means beer on Korean. Chimaek, thus, is eating fried chicken along side with a beer. Korean fried chicken is juicy and crunchy with lots of sauces, pairing with a cold beer is just perfect. This is the favorite weekend activity of many Koreans. After the chimaek, Koreans with go for another round to the karaoke (norebang) until late.

Gopchang (곱창)

Excitingly, gopchang is making its way to Korean restaurants in Vietnam. When I came to Seoul and tried gopchang for the first time, I was in love. Gopchang is grilled pork intestines, which is another famous anju (drinking snack). Gopchang is chewy and will have that fatty, juicy taste when grilled. Pairing it with a shot of soju is perfect for a chilly winter day. Gopchang comes at a little bit higher price than normal BBQ, so my advice is to try the gopchang places around universities like Hongdae and Sinchon for greater value! 

Gamjatang (감자탕)

Tang in Korean means soup-like dishes. Besides the famous Samgyetang (삼계탕) (chicken ginseng stew) and Seolleongtang (설렁탕) (beef bone stew), when I was in Korea, I also tried Gamjatang (potato soup). In this dish, potato is stewed till soft, along with green onion, pork bone, chilli, and the signature:  perilla seed. This soup is perfect for the cold days in Korea as it’s spicy and fulfilling. It also goes well with rice.

Chuncheon dakgalbi (춘천 닭갈비)

When you visit student areas in Seoul, you will notice seeing the 닭갈비 signs everywhere – which mean Korean stir fried chicken. This dish is pretty cheap and can be shared, so it’s definitely a must-try if you’re traveling with friends. Boneless chicken is stir-fried at the table, with chilly sauce, tteok (rice cake), cabbage, sweet potato, and cheese, giving an interesting texture and taste to the dish. After you finish the chicken, you can order a rice bowl with dry seaweed to fry on the pan, super yummy!

Bingsu (빙수)

If you come to Korea in the summer, make sure not to miss the loved-by-all bingsu! I’m sure many of you are familiar with this dish. Bingsu in Korea is updated from the traditional version with red bean and syrup to a variety of toppings like fruits, ice cream, and marshmallow.  The menu also offers honey toasted bread, which is another must-try dessert for summer.

But then, in reality, there’s no such thing as a perfect job. You might like the company, but not your boss. Maybe your boss is nice, but you can’t stand your coworkers. You are fond of your coworkers, but the work is a hassle. You enjoy the work, but the commute is killing you… And when you finally think you have found the seemingly perfect job, the salary offered is not as expected.

Should you consider quitting?

Personally, I would continue, because it’s not easy to find a job that I really love and want to give it all I’ve got. What I’m doing now is basically the same: It is not always glamorous to work in the fashion industry (people thought I have a 9-figure income when I posted a Youtube video debunking all the assumptions around me! My actual income is not even close!) But I am persistent, since I like it, and I know I have a lot of space to make progress.

But what about the unsatisfactory pay?

First of all, make sure that the salary can support all your basic monthly expenses.

Everyone has some fixed monthly expenses: rent, bills, food, healthcare, transport… Whatever you do, your income each month should at least be able to cover all of these. Otherwise, the hard truth is that it is not enough for you to support yourself and you gotta find another job.

Secondly, keep hustling.

When the salary is still low, many would get discouraged or would only do what they are being paid for. However, in such a competitive workplace nowadays, just getting the job “done” is not a job well-done.

If you already have your mind set on the job, be hardworking, proactive and progressive. Always be the best version of yourself in front of your boss, be the trustworthy and helpful one for your coworkers. That is the only way to gain acknowledgement as well as opportunities to be promoted in the future. Or else, you would not progress, and that seemingly perfect job would eventually become a burden.

Thirdly, your salary is completely negotiable.

It is very difficult for the company or your boss to offer you a pay raise if you haven’t had the time to prove your worth. Because of this, if you are serious about what you’re doing, it’s possible to discuss your upcoming plans with your superiors to work out an achievable path.

There were times when I took in jobs that did not offer satisfactory pays, but I knew would bring me opportunities to grow in the future. But do keep in mind that these plans have to be specific, like knowing you’d be getting a salary or position appraisal in the next 6 months. It is quite worrisome to try to communicate with your boss but never get a straightforward answer.

Next, working on side projects are always an option.

If you stumble across an outside project that correlates to the field you like, it’s a chance for you to generate some extra income and level up some skill sets. The fashion industry, to be specific, offers part-time jobs in content, modelling, photographing… for various brands. This not only helps to expand one’s network, but also a source of income to ease the burden of low salary in the company you are working for.

Last but not least, be honest with yourself.

There will be stressful times when you think about the pay, even though the job is going well. Perhaps you will compare yourself with your peers and feel pressured. It’s absolutely normal, what you need is to figure out what you truly want. If income is your top priority, it is what you need to be confident and happy, then have courage and go look for another job. If you enjoy your current work because of the values it brings to yourself and those around you more than just payments, then go ahead and give it your best.

After all, there is no such thing as a permanent job. So, enjoy your life, and be brave to do whatever you set your heart on!
