5 DIY face masks to make your home feel like spa

DIY face masks from your own fridge!

15/06/2021

Vietnam is experiencing another lockdown! During this time when I spend most of my time at home, I came up with the idea of making DIY face masks from the ingredients sitting in my own fridge. They’re all 100% natural recipes!

I LOVE these masks because they smell super delicious and nurture your skin well. Each mask also works differently based on your skin type, so choose that one that works best for you. Now let’s get started!

1/ For acne-prone skin: Banana + Turmeric powder + Baking soda

Ingredients:

  • 1 mashed banana
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder

Banana – my dogs’ all-time favorite fruit – is something I always have in my fridge. Banana is rich in vitamin A, so a banana face mask would work wonders for rejuvenating skin and clearing up pores. Besides, turmeric is famous for its antibacterial and antioxidant properties; and baking soda would remove excess oil on your face. I’m sure this face mask is amazing for acne-prone skin!

2/ For dry skin: Avocado + Honey + Olive oil + Yogurt

Ingredients:

  • 1 avocado
  • 2 spoons of plain, unsweetened yogurt
  • 1 spoon of olive oil
  • 1 spoon of honey

Did you know both avocado and olive oil are rich in omega – the essential fat that helps your skin look plump and supple? Meanwhile, yogurt and honey are the ingredients that will gently moisturize your skin. So this mask is absolutely perfect for dry skin. Leave this mask on for about 10-15 minutes then rinse well (disclaimer: it will be sticky!) and you will find your skin baby-soft and fully moisturized.

3/ For rough, bumpy skin: Cucumber + Milk + Honey + Brown sugar

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cucumber juice
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 spoon of honey
  • 1 spoon of brown sugar

This face mask helps soothe skin, reduces redness, and also smells super good. Having this mask on makes me feel like I’m in a spa. Besides, the brown sugar is a great exfoliator, so the mask will leave your skin feeling soft and fresh afterwards.

4/ For tired skin: Lemon + Brown sugar + Olive oil

Ingredients:

  • 4 table spoons of lemon juice
  • 2 tea spoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tea spoon of olive oil

Your skin is the reflection of your physical health, so when you experience sleep deprivation or stress, your skin will look no doubt dull and tired. The combination of lemon and brown sugar helps exfoliate your skin, while olive oil would moisturize it. Besides, vitamin C in lemon also helps brighten up your skin, giving it an instant glow. This recipe is my secret weapon for the exhausting outdoor shooting days.

5/ For sun-damaged skin: Yogurt + Honey + Aloe vera (optional)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of plain, unsweetened yogurt
  • 1 table spoon of honey
  • Aloe vera (optional)

Yogurt is an amazing ingredient for our skin. Yogurt contains lactic acid that helps generating new skin cells. The probiotics in yogurt also soothe your skin after a day under the sun. This mask is perfect for sensitive, sunburned skin. Depending on how long you were in the sun, you can leave this mask on for 20-30 minutes. Be sure not to leave the mask dry. When you feel the mask is getting dry, coat on one more layer so that your skin can absorb the nutrition better.

I like making my own face masks because I can use all-natural products and know what suits my skin best. Have you ever DIY-ed your mask? Try these recipes and share your thoughts with me in the comment section below!
